I think of making art as a way of giving
shape to distant memories and obsessions. The process, an uncharted journey, is intuitive
and spontaneous, guided by a feeling or idea and the materials. I am inspired by the
layers of history in my environment and by the natural beauty. I live by the ocean and a
river, where my surroundings are full of contrast and sudden change and nothing
seems fixed. My mixed media work begins with found elements: an object, papers, a piece of
cloth, something that is evocative to me. Through a process of texturing, layering,
painting, drawing, adding and subtracting, the work evolves. My hope is to extend beyond
the personal dialog and provide viewers with the opportunity for reflection and a journey
of their own.
