“Sephirot” is loosely based on the Jewish mystical tradition known as Kabbalah. According to the tradition the sephirot are arranged as a tree with the human at the center. The ten Sephirot can be seen as a way of connecting oneself with the physical and spiritual world. Kabbalah is a complex cosmology, which can take a lifetime to comprehend. This series of paintings has been an opportunity for me to explore some of the guiding principles of Kabbalah. For example, if there were no “Righteous” humans, the world would cease to exist. It is necessary to show “Compassion” toward oneself in order to be compassionate towards others. The opportunity to visualize this “Tree of Life” was an interesting challenge. In addition to symbolic content there is color and numerology associated with each Sephira. Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav taught “All the world is just a narrow bridge.” I hope you will give yourself the opportunity to take a walk on the bridge and let yourself enter into the Sephirot.urvivorstory.com |
