Newsletter, January 2006

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Partners Gallery will soon be celebrating its eighth year in business thanks to your support.  We have started this semi annual newsletter to keep you informed about what we are doing and other things of interest on the Mendocino Coast.  We hope you enjoy this and the exhibition announcements that we mail you.

RESPONSES: CAITLIN HAHN & ARIANNE RAND

In September, 2004 Arianne Rand and Caitlin Hahn began a correspondence of paintings: sending them back and forth through the mail from Brooklyn, NY to San Francisco and then from Brooklyn to Oaxaca, Mexico.  Although they do not work on the same painting, they provide a jumping off place for one another.  The completed piece that arrives in the mail propels the beginning of a new piece, and so on.

Like conversations between old friends, this correspondence is something they hope to continue throughout the years, it being a powerful way to keep in contact, sharing and responding to the visual worlds explored each time a new piece of art arrives in the studio.

The works on paper that includes the correspondence as well as related individual, mixed media work will be on display in the gallery February 9 to March 5, 2006.  A reception for the artists will be Saturday, February 11th, 5-8 pm.

COLLAGE AND ASSEMBLAGE Part I:

Partners and the following invited artists will be exhibiting collage and assemblage works:Robert Ross, Tanya Traber, Eduardo Smissen, Sandy Oppenheimer, Arla Smith, Hans Bruhner, Toby Lurie, and Jack Lillis.

Collage works include cut out paper, cloth, or found materials that are attached to another surface.  Assemblage pushes this definition further to describe work that gathers and manipulates two and three dimensional found objects.  Most often assemblage is sculpture. Part I of this exhibit will be March 9 to April 3.  A reception for the artists will be Saturday, March 11th, 5-8 pm.

COLLAGE AND ASSEMBLAGE Part II:

Because there is so much interesting work done by artists on the coast in this media, Partners has decided to devote two monthly shows to it.  In Part II Partners will be exhibiting along with the following invited artists:

Susan Hadley, Gail Reiss, Robert Rhoades, Susan Gross, Jennifer Taylor, Sue Siskin, Ada B. Fine, and Mark Yasskin.  The work in both exhibits will include representational as well as abstract work using many kinds of mixed media.  Part II of this exhibit will be April 6 to May 8.  A reception for the artists will be Saturday, April 8th, 5-8 pm.

JEWELRY INVITATIONAL
Judith Beam, Partners Gallery’s jeweler will be curating an exhibit that will showcase the finest work of coastal jewelers.  This will be the first exhibit during which Partners Gallery will pay homage to the great creativity that exists locally among fine jewelry makers.  This exhibit will be May 11 to June 5.  A reception for the artists will be Saturday, May 13th, 5-8 pm.

JOHN DARCY AND PATTI GUARACHI

John Darcy who is one of the Partners has invited Patti Guarachi to exhibit with him in a two person exhibit.  They will both be showing new large scale paintings.  John will also be showing woven willow sculptures.  Darcy’s work can be described asabstract while Guarachi paints in a surrealist mode. This exhibition will be June 8 to July 3.  A reception for the artists will be Saturday, June 10th 5-8 pm.
