WELCOME NEW PARTNERS
We are happy to welcome Karen Urbanek, a fiber artist and Melissa Murphy, a photographer as new members of the gallery.  An image of Karen’s work was shown in the last newsletter as she was one of the invited artists in our spring Landscape exhibit.  Melissa was included in the “5 Points of View” photography show in April.  You will hear more of these artists in the coming year as they both prepare for one person exhibits.

"IT CAME FROM UNDER THE DOCK"

Ecological mixed media artist Virginia Stearns has created a variety of works that explore and showcase the natural world including floating wildlife islands and bird perches in San Francisco’s Mission Creek as well as butterfly gardens.  She brought to the fore the soil-engineering fauna of the compost process in hugely oversized sumptuous fabric critters.  In a similar vein she is showing a collection of oversized marine invertebrates in yummy fabrics, including a 3 foot in diameter sea anenome in plush and velvet, a Pacific mussel and an elegant sea slug in a variety of satins. The works present these little noticed creatures from a unique perspective both intriguing and educational. The show will run October 11-November 5th with a reception Sat. October 13th 5-8 pm.
