Chimera Carnival

2023 Exhibit

Recently I’ve been wondering about the fascination for humans with animal heads. Is it that we all contain multitudes, including ravens and squirrels? and what about the Sphinx at Giza—that massive lion with a human head protecting forever the king in the pyramid?

And so to the chimera (pronounced ky-meer-uh). It’s a creature made from at least two different species, combining special aspects from each other. I see the squirrel as pretty tough and tricky, and the buffalo gal is a staunch observer. The lion roars at night.

I like to grab onto a situation, like a stage set, and let my characters enter. Promenade got started because I got a very big piece of paper from a friend and wanted to record the lack of a prom for kids graduating in 2020. Now it’s become a parade up the road to the ferris wheel and the edgy fun of the carnival at night.
