In response to the upheaval caused by the Coronavirus Jason McCoy Gallery in New York has hosted a weekly Drawing Challenge. Each week, a sentence, poem, or song lyric is proposed inviting artists to submit a unique visual response. The quotation for Drawing Challenge XIV was “I want this raw material to be my playpen…a means of doing anything I wish…to exercise every fantasy, myth, every feeling of the absurd within my grasp.”
"All of the work in this exhibition, juried by Brigham Dimick, embodies a sort of alchemical process, in which uncomfortable feelings are transformed into generous creative products. Through a diversity of mediums and approaches, these works display synergies between therapeutic motivations and a will to create rich experiences for the viewer. Like me, I hope that many visitors to this exhibition will take comfort in encountering these works, knowing that others are reckoning with difficult challenges in a creatively constructive manner.” (Statement from the juror)
Two Partners, Kathy Carl and Karen Fenley, are participating in this year's collaboration between writers and visual artists on the Northern California Mendocino Coast. The exhibition can be viewed 24/7.
Partners Pamela Hahn and Arlene Reiss interviewed in our local paper.
