Culverts

2023 Exhibit

I am on or near Big River every day and can see it from my house. Several years ago the culverts under the former logging road adjacent to the river were replaced and the old culverts created a massive sculpture alongside the road at the gravel pit. I passed it almost daily, watched as artists formed the pieces into sculptural works, and then was saddened by the total removal of the pieces. Before that happened I photographed the heaps and scraps of metal and being a painter, created my own collages. The resulting images are reminiscent of human organs or underwater vegetation. These works reflect the challenge of depicting three dimensions in two dimensional form and with a limited palette.

Meet the Artist at our Second Saturday Opening May 13, 5-7pm. Partners Gallery is located at 45062 Ukiah Street in Mendocino. The hours are Thursday through Monday from 11am to 5pm.
